Rei and Asuka.

This is my final piece for my Illustration class- I used Yoshitaka Amano for my inspiration (moon as key point, flowy clothes..) and of course I had to draw something Evangelion related.. I've managed to sneak in Evangelion in 6 of my 7 art classes, ranging from a little Ramiel at the bottom of my sketch in Drawing to a giant Leliel and Lance hovering over a city for Composition..

Ahhh I'm SO TIRED THERE'S SO MUCH WORK TO DO AND NO TIME TO DRAW FOR MYSELF AND I'M SICK I HATE EVERYTHING BLEHHHHHHHH TELL ME ABOUT YOUR DAY AND AMUSE ME PLEASE

This is acrylic and ink on sugar paper if you wanted to know..
My teacher says my anatomy, especially hands needs work, I need to stop drawing in an anime style and my colouring is weak so GUYS FEEL FREE TO CRITIQUE SO I CAN GET BETTER!!

Also he still gave me a B+ HA

This is actually a very unique approach with elements of dark fantasy (In particular with Rei's organic cape with haunting + scheme. Also how the colours are spread out and the shapes of the cape have a disquieting fleshy feel as well) and a more subtle symbolism. (The Anime & the films were basically overkill on Post-Modern takes of Iconography + Freud XD) Rei has a more stressed & vulnerable expression here, giving her a gentle human quality (She never stresses or smiles in the original) which is in contrast with Asuka having a very detached, soulless feel with her tight pose and covered face. A nice juxtaposition and twist of perseonality extremes, Great job here!

My day today? Basically the standard busy weekday; packed work, stressed atmosphere and the redundant suite of typing & papers being either shredded or printed. Also my eyes are hurting from lack of sleep...

..Okay, I gotta admit I have no idea what iconography and Freud are.. Does it refer to the blatant use of symbolism in pretty much every scene in the Evangelion franchise? XD

Rei's expression was supposed to look neutral here, but since the painting is quite small I had trouble with the details on her face

She was supposed to look powerful in comparison to Asuka with her fancy cape and all since she was shown as pretty much a god-like figure in The End. Asuka was drawn like that to try and depict her true self- the insecure, vulnerable Asuka, not the confident bossy one she tries to show everyone.

Yes, it referred to Eva's overt symbolism & suggestive imagery.
...I understand now, there is definitely a feel of truth being revealed in this art not just physical but internal-wise. Really like your interpretation of them here.
